The Truth About Junk Food And The Effect On Your Health 0

Posted on July 02, 2009 by piter

Let’s face it, junk food is, as the name suggest, just pure junk. While it tastes great, it has very little nutrition content and it will cause some health issues in the near future.

First, let me say that I am not advocating a total abstain of junk food but a moderation of it.

There are many people out there that are not thinking of their general health all the time when they are thinking of something to eat all the time. With all the fast food restaurants out there many do not think about exactly what they are eating all the time.

There is nothing wrong with eating at fast food restaurants but you really need to watch what you are eating all the time. If you were to think about it what you eat really reflects your general health all the time.

If you are one that eats a lot of junk food then you could be run down all the time and gaining weight on a regular basis. You may not notice it right away but your friends and family will see that you are not doing as well as you used to and that is because of the junk food that you are eating all the time.

If you have been told that you are looking real ragged then you are going to want to stop and look at what you are eating and doing in your life that would make you look ragged. Once you have accomplished and narrowed down a list of what may be making you look ragged then you are going to want to change some or all of your habits. When you make an effort of changing your habits then you are going to see that you are going to end up in better general health than what you were in before.

When you are in good general health you will notice that you are going to have more energy and be more alert to what you are doing and what is going on around you in the end. Your family and friend will also notice that you are doing better and even looking better in the end as well. That is because when you are in good general health you are going to end up showing it with everything that you do so that everyone will notice what you have accomplished in the end.

In conclusion, you should not be eating too much junk food. It does nothing but causing some negative health issues for you.

Acne and Junk Food – Top Six #1 Food Sources That Help Cure Acne 0

Posted on July 02, 2009 by piter

It is a proven fact that what you eat has an affect on, not only your overall health, but it has an affect on your outer appearance as well, including your skin. So you ask, “Does eating junk food cause acne?

“It should be noted that “junk” foods are not necessarily the cause of acne. However, the benefits of consuming “good” foods can certainly help your skin to be healthy, vibrant, and younger looking.

Here are six “key” food source groups to help promote having healthy, clear skin.

Low-Fat Dairy Products – This is an excellent way to get your vitamin A, which is essential to healthy skin. Vitamin A promotes healthy skin cells.

Blackberries, Blueberries, Strawberries, Beans, and Pecans – These delicious treats have high antioxidant contents, and the benefits of eating these foods are good for your total health, including healthy skin. The antioxidants in these foods can protect the skin cells from free radicals (which can cause cancer), and from cell DNA damage (which causes the skin to deteriorate).

Salmon, Walnuts, Canola Oil, Flax Seed, and Soy Milk – These foods are a good source of the essential fatty acids Omega 3 and Omega 6, and we must have a good balance of both. These foods are also essential for healthy cell membranes. Healthy cell membranes build barriers to keep things that are harmful to the cell out. These membranes also play an important role in serving as a passageway for the cells to receive needed nutrients, and that same passageway allows waste products to get out of the cells. Healthy cell membrane barriers also hold in water that keep your cells moist and your skin looking plump and young.

Whole-wheat Foods, Turkey, Tuna, and Brazil Nuts – These foods are excellent sources of the mineral selenium, which is good for healthy skin cells and fewer breakouts.Green Tea – This beverage contains polyphenols, which have anti-inflammatory properties, and is very protective to cell membranes. This is a great benefit to overall skin health. Studies show it may also help prevent or reduce skin cancer risks.

Water – The real fountain of youth. Keeping yourself hydrated with plenty of water plays an important role in keeping the skin looking healthy, and also helps to flush out poisons from the body and skin. The human body is made up of 70-80% water. If we do not drink enough, then our cells do not regenerate and remove waste the way they should. This causes poisons and impurities to build up in the cells, which can cause acne, as well as other conditions and even disease.

So you see, along with an effective facial regimen, it is also very important to eat and drink a good, balanced diet to get rid of waste that can cause acne and “bad” skin.

Sports Drinks: Safe Alternatives or Junk Food? 0

Posted on July 02, 2009 by piter

Anti-obesity, health advocates are at it again. They have successfully won a battle on having sodas banned in elementary schools by the 2008-2009 school year. They are furthering their cause by trying to also ban sports drinks in schools such as ‘Gatorade’ and ‘Powerade’ and flavored waters. They are claiming that sports drinks contain as much as two-thirds of the sugars in sodas, and more than three times the sodium.
Senator Tom Harkin (D-Iowa) has apparently agreed with this cause, enough, by introducing a bill in congress that would allow the government to decide what is best for the nation’s children, in setting nutritional standards for all foods, drinks, and flavored vitamin waters in schools. The hotly debated topic ensues in congress between nutritional health care advocates and the trade group that represents the bottlers of these drinks. Are they really ‘safer alternatives’ or just ‘junk food’? It certainly is garnering some attention in congress, and for other interested bystanders as well.
The trade group representing the manufacturers of these drinks, of course, are adamantly opposing this bill. They proclaim these drinks are lower in sugar and calories than sodas, and are appropriate, even essential, to young high school athletes.
But, there is more evidence coming from the University of California at Berkeley, that adds fuel to the health care advocates cause, that warns about the possible weight gain associated with consuming to many of these drinks. They conclude that students who drink one 20- ounce of the drinks in question per day, for a year, without sufficient physical activity may experience a weight gain of up to 13 pounds.
Nutritionists, and health care advocates are not at all surprised with these findings. They say that looking at the ingredient label pretty much says it all. Read what the first three to four ingredients are in a recipe, they are listed in the order of their prevalence in the mixture. Most sports drinks and flavored waters consist mostly of water, many different types of sugar, acid flavor enhancers, and sodium.
Bucket loads of money is being spent by beverage manufacturers, on brainwashing advertisements, to get consumers to believe that these drinks are healthy, and essential. They claim they are needed to replenish those lost electrolytes, due to physical exertion. But, there is simply no real scientific evidence to support this theory. So, you can then begin to understand why the makers of these drinks do not want any official congressional sanctioning, of the notion, that sports drinks are linked to obesity.
Children who are involved in a long and physically demanding game, or any lengthy physical activity, and are drinking simple carbohydrates such as high fructose corn syrup (HFC), glucose, dextrose (the list can be quite lengthy), will experience a rise in normal insulin levels. Elevated insulin levels causes a short spike in energy levels followed by a sudden energy crash. This sluggishness can affect a child’s overall athletic performance.
Sports drinks also contain enough sugar, just like sodas, to corrode teeth. Physical exertion causes dry mouth conditions, as not enough saliva is present in the mouth to fight off the acidic effects that sugar can have on teeth.
Children, or adults, simply do not require a short-term energizing boost in heir insulin levels in, relation to the amount of mild physical activity they are expending most of the time. Walking the dog, washing the car, or a quick game of hoops does not qualify as a vigorous enough activity to warrant the use of a sports drink. And, many children, and adults, lead very sedentary lifestyles, that buying into advertising claims about the safety, or essential need for such a product can help add to an ongoing obesity problem.
The only situation where a sports drink might be helpful, is after an individual has truly engaged in a vigorous physical workout that lasted for at least an hour. If you are actually sweating profusely, or if hot and humid weather conditions combined with high physical exertion are present, you might treat yourself with a sports drink. Otherwise, there are healthier food options for energy, and water alone does a wonderful job of re-hydrating you. To replace lost minerals, give your body some pure unrefined salt.
There really is no getting around it, manufactured beverages the way they are currently being sweetened are not healthy hydrating fluids for your body. And, they should never be used in total replacement of pure water. If you think you must have a sports drink, try a watered down version instead. However, plant the seed of knowledge in your mind, right now, that nothing satisfies your body more efficiently than plain and simple water.

How Successful Will Junk Food Ban in Schools Be? – by Sungjin Park 0

With a new school year comes a new policy that will be enforced starting this year. There will be a school junk food ban that would discontinue the distribution and sale of junk food at school. As of last year, schools already started to change some of the food sold in the cafeteria. Granola bars were sold, fried chips replaced with baked chips, soda machines with fruit juice and other healthy food options were made available. Surveys were also conducted throughout the year to evaluate healthy food choices that the students would most like to see.

There has obviously been a lot of controversy over the past few months as to whether the junk food ban would be successful or not, but finally, we will see the effectiveness of the policy once the schools re-open. In my view, it definitely won’t hurt. Though some argue that the ban will be rendered useless as kids bring junk food from home and some go off campus to eat, none argue that the junk food ban would be harmful to the students. After all, with 1 in 5 students being obese today compared to 1 in 20 in the 1970s, something must clearly be done. However, the food ban might cause a few problems for the school cafeteria and moreover for many of the clubs who bank on fundraisers.

Not only that, many clubs who have in the past depended on candy fundraisers and bake sales for their income have already had to start thinking of new ideas to make money. And it’s not going to be easy for them. Candy sales were definitely one of the most profitable fundraisers around and there aren’t many people that would be willing to pay a dollar for fruit bars and orange juice as opposed to Reese’s or Coke. A seemingly beneficial ban really is painful for these fundraisers.

Nevertheless, the outlook is bright. The alternative menu items which include pasta, and deep pan pizza are not horribly disgusting (though most of us found the option of guava juice a bit strange). I feel most kids will continue buying food from the cafeteria either because the parents are too busy or lazy to make lunch for their children, or the kids are just too lazy to drive themselves to some other restaurant. How To Eat Junk Food And Not Put On Weight 0

Posted on July 02, 2009 by piter

Salads are the mainstay of many a diet and happy dieters around the globe would not be happy unless their fridges were full of cucumbers, lettuce and beetroot! Many of these dieters may have been aware already that by eating salad with every meal their metabolic rate increases which results in greater fat burn. What will shock a lot of dieters out there is that salads can negate the harmful effects of the dreaded junk foods! Junk foods on their own are lethal to weight loss efforts, they are completely saturated with empty calories that your body will never burn off that will eventually turn into fat and excess weight, but by eating salad along with your junk food amazingly the weight potential is either offset completely or minimalized! If you are wondering how salads can be this effective at stopping or controlling weight gain you have to look at certain chemical transactions that happen or in some cases don’t happen within the body. To put it simply, the reason you become fat is because your body provides a protective reaction in order to save your life. All the junk food you eat, red meat, soda drinks, sweets, white bread etc all contain acids, these acids if left untreated could attack the body very quickly eventually resulting in an untimely death! The body finds these acids and wraps them in a protective layer of fat which neutralizes them. They are then stored in the body as fatty deposits.Green vegetables, such as the sort you have in salads are full of alkalines. Now anyone who knows anything about chemical reactions will be able to tell you that alkalines and acids are opposite ends of a chemical spectrum and when opposed in equal proportions they will neutralize each other. The reasons why eating salad along with junk food is a wise choice should now be apparent. If you are serious about losing weight you should avoid eating junk foods as much as possible but at least you now have an ally in the restaurant when you go out for a meal.

Addicted to Junk Foods? Think Twice you Might Get Ed! 0

Posted on July 02, 2009 by piter

Eating junk food is an important activity followed by the youth today. Nowadays, the two go almost hand in hand. The trend of having fast food or junk food, as these edibles are commonly referred to, is fast catching up everywhere in the world. Most of the college and the school canteens cater to these junk foods mainly because they have huge takers and so they sell well. In fact why just the college canteens, we have junk food stalls in all the nooks and corner of the world!

A lot has been written, researched, and talked about the dangerous effects of the junk foods but to no avail. The junk foods seem to be having the last laugh. They are raking huge profits and their profits are only growing. It’s not long since the culture of munching junk foods came into being; the virus of junk foods has spread like a plague within a period of twenty years. And the harms are already visible.

One of the most apparent and common side effects of junk foods is the bane of obesity. Today students and children are increasingly falling prey to obesity and overweight. Inspite of all the hue and cry, there is little or no effect at all on the sales of junk foods in the negative.

The junk foods and the cold drinks together are quite fertile breeding grounds for many forms of cancer. But these alarms just don’t seem to ring in the ears of the youngsters. Not just the youngsters, today even the five year old are familiar with the names like Mc Donald’s, Pizza Hut, Dominos, Pepsi, Coke and the like. This never ending appetite of the youth for the junk foods is making some people billionaires! You don’t believe. Well, let me tell you that the yearly income of the famous brand famous for their burgers, namely Mc Donald’s is a whopping 10 billion dollars! Similar is the case with the other restaurant chains like Pizza Hut, dominos, Café Coffee Day, Smokin’ Joe’s etc. So the conclusion is that you are getting fat, flabby, and sick while people are growing millionaires at your cost. Let me warn you it’s not a good bargain at all.

No doubt these junk foods just taste awesome, but apart from taste there are certain other factors that are responsible for their overwhelming sale. And one such factor is the way these products are marketed. The Mc burgers and the Pizza Hut pizza look so cheesy, crisp, and yummy, that that one wants to hog them even when seen on paper. So just wonder how tasty they are in reality! Secondly, most of the cold drinks and restaurant chains are endorsed by celebrities who bind the younger generation to such stuff like glue. The youth relates to these young celebrities and the products that they endorse. Hence these products sell.

You must be aware of the fact that junk foods are quite high on calories. These high calories store themselves in the sides of the blood vessels resulting in lesser blood flow to the organs of the body, including the penis. Confused? Don’t you know that in order to have sex, apart from having a partner and appropriate sex drive, you also require ample blood flow to your sexual organ. You can’t make love with a limp organ. Can you? Do you know that too much of junk food might get you this awful disease called erectile dysfunction? Am sure you people will still opt for junk foods. After all how can you ignore your tongue isn’t it? Well, then there are fair chances that you might get erectile dysfunction and remember there is no cure for it. Yes you have temporary treatments in the form of cialis drug but its effects would last for only 36 hours. Nowadays cialis pill is easily accessible and so you can buy cialis from anywhere just be a little cautious to purchase the authentic medicine. Consult your doctor before you order cialis. But the point that you must note is that ED drugs are quite expensive so it would do you good if you give up on your bad habits, and save some bucks and also your health. Lastly let me add two more things here, leaving junk food does not guarantee an ED free life but it should not discourage you from giving up junk because it is harmful in all ways!

How Can I Lose Weight? – I Cant Stop Eating Junk Food? 0

Posted on July 02, 2009 by piter

Somebody wrote to me recently and asked for my help. They said that they have recently started a new job with unsocial hours and can’t help eating junk food all the time. They also said that they find it hard to get motivated.

You’ll be pleased to know that there is something that can be done about this, so I’m going to tell you 8 easy to follow steps to take that will help you overcome this problem.

1. Stop buying it:

If you don’t buy junk food you can’t eat it! Look for healthier options and read of the rest of the steps.

2. Eat breakfast:

How many times have you heard that Breakfast is the most important meal of the day. I can still hear my mother’s voice! Well, it’s true! A bowl of porridge or cereal will fill you up for the morning. If you don’t have time in the morning then eat a banana and a pot of low-fat yoghurt. Oatmeal bars are also a great snack, full of fibre and healthy for you.

3. Keep healthy snacks at work:

Keep a supply of apples in your desk – they keep a long time. Bananas are a great snack as well as they are ready-wrapped and release energy slowly so you don’t feel hungry quickly after eating one.

4. Eat healthy alternatives:

Instead of a lunchtime burger or high-calorie, high-fat sandwich or roll try making a healthy lunch at home. Buy some brown, oatmeal burger buns and fill with freshly chopped lettuce, low-fat grated cheese, tomato, cucumber etc. Alternatively choose a baked potato with a healthy topping or filling.

5. Keep healthy food in the house:

If you don’t have any junk food in the house, you can only eat good stuff, right?

6. Plan your meals for the week:

Once you have planned your meals you can make a shopping list. Buy only the items on the list and don’t shop when you’re hungry. Cook enough for a few meals and freeze the rest for later in the work when you come home from work tired.

7. Keep active:

Deliberately make your body work harder to do simple, everyday things. Use the stairs instead of the elevator. While sitting at work or home move your legs up and down as if walking or marching on the spot. Do sit ups, fidget or walk places quickly,

Walk to work and walk home from work. If it’s not feasible to do that then park the car further away from work, or get off the bus a stop earlier and walk the rest. Try going out for walks when you don’t work.

8. Drink plenty of water:

You can lose at least 7-10 extra pounds just by drinking enough water. It also boosts your metabolic rate. When your metabolic rate is raised you will burn fat and lose weight. Water detoxifies your body by flushing out all the toxins. As a result you will feel better and have healthier, clearer skin as an added bonus.

If you really want to lose weight then it is simply a matter of getting into the right frame of mind and deciding that it is something you will do. Don’t think – I will TRY to lose weight but decide I WILL lose weight!

You can if you want to!

Weight Loss – You Can Eat Junk Foods and Still Lose Weight! 0

What image does it conjure up in your mind when you think of salads? Diets? Deprivation? Boring lettuce leaves again? Well, you’ll be pleased to know that it doesn’t have to be like that. Salads can help you lose weight in multiple ways? Think of salads of your best dieting buddies!

Salads eaten with every meal will increase your metabolic rate. This in turn will help you burn fat fast! But, you’ll be pleased to learn that there is another way in which salads can help you with weight loss, something you might not be aware of! Eating junk foods alone is not okay, but if you eat salads with junk foods, you will be able to offset any further weight gain!

You have probably tried almost all the available fad diet plans out there and still failed miserably and are beginning to wonder how salads can help you so much.

Junk foods are rich in acids and quite often contain a high percentage of salt. Your body binds these acids inside your body, neutralizes them and stores them as fat deposits inside your body!

Green vegetables such as salads contain a lot of alkaline which is the worst enemy of acids. When you eat foods that contain alkaline you help to cleanse your body of all the toxins that you have in the form of fat deposits. In this way you will see that you are able to shed all the extra pounds very quickly! The more green and leafy vegetables you eat, the faster you will lose weight!

Therefore it is important to always include plenty of salad with your meal when eating junk food and you will be helping yourself to prevent gaining any more weight!

That is not to say that you can eat as much junk food as you like, with salads, and not gain weight. What you can do is to choose healthier options. A filet-of-fish has fewer calories than a double cheeseburger; a diet coke is healthier than a regular coke. Fast food restaurants are starting to display the number of calories in each of their foods. So it is better to choose something that has fewer calories so you don’t feel as if you are depriving yourself.

Don’t forget to include as much side salad as you can but without a high calorie dressing on it.

If you seriously want to lose weight then junk foods should be restricted. Plan your meals so you are eating a healthy well-balanced diet then you can ‘treat’ yourself every so often to a fast food meal.

Doing it this way will help you to lose weight very quickly! Remember that the faster you lose weight, the sooner you can get the slim body you have always dreamed about!
