I was always under the impression that he took days to dry food, so do not expect much different when I bought this computer a few weeks ago. I could not be more wrong! This is great! The first weekend we had the dried apples, bananas and strawberries. They all turned out great, but the apple chips were definitely my favorite. Took about 10-12 hours to do all that fruit (5 trays worth). The best surprise was the next weekend bought some round steak, sliced it real thin and marinated in delivered jerky seasoning / cure package for four hours, we had the best tasting jerky I have ever. That was amazing! I have a jerky gun on order now so I can try the ground meat too violent. I highly recommend this unit … was definitely worth the money!
After reading other opinions, it seemed that this would be the best – a relatively low-performing, but for dehydration. We have another dehydrator (FD-60), but the FD-75PR is quieter. The only thing we like better for the FD-60 is that the fan, being at the bottom need not be transferred when moving out or trays. FD-75PR not go to 145 degrees F, and FD-60 is only to 135 degrees F. So the FD-75PR can be used to create jerky. But do not just drain all on 145, make sure the temperature is suitable for the product you are dehydrating. We used the dehydrator for about a month almost nonstop.
The Nesco FD-75PR 700-Watt Food Dehydrator was my first foray into food dehydration. I did apples, pears, peaches and pineapples, and first appeared to be very good for the first time – much better than buying at the grocery store in little packages! I probably should have thinner slices of fruit and I will next time. My husband is begging me to jerky! My only complaint seems to be the same as the other – no timer. I'm going to go to the hardware store and get one of those plug-in time. I think this will be perfect. I recommend this to others, especially for the price, although no one should buy this purchase plug-in timer at the same time.
After months of research and purchased the Nesco FD 75 PR dehydrator during the promotion. I am very pleased with it. I originally wanted the model with digital display, but decided on a significant price difference to go with this model.
I have owned 3-4 other dehydrators (same brand) usually purchased from retailers such as Wal Mart, K Mart, etc. All done in a satisfactory manner and used them to the end of the operation. FD-75PR It really hits a home run in these areas: 1) engine and the fan is at the top … you will appreciate this fact during cleaning. No more drippings down the breathing hole in the fan base! 2) Under (700) is a monster and has a tendency to rapidly drain. My old unit had already dehydrated food, often pins and leaving them overnight to dry food. Even experienced users have to monitor the first few batches to get the "feel" for the unit. 3) Smooth lines – the unit is very sleek and looks good when set to the counter top. I like it!
