Basically, the FOODSAVER system is sound and well designed EXCEPT for the canisters which often crack. Many of us have urged Tilia to upgrade the plastic canisters, and so far they have refused. I do not put the canisters in the dishwasher, or even use harsh chemicals. One canister cracked, pressurized, on the shelf after a few weeks without being moved. When you call Tilia they will let you know that there is NO WARRANTY OF ANY KIND on their canisters, which tells volumes about how they view their own product.

Tilia blames their customers for the cracks. I am honestly sorry I did not heed the warnings I read by Amazon consumers before I purchased. I usually depend on Amazon customer recommendations for all my purchases. I have spent much money on Tilia accessories, and am now considering looking for another brand. Hope this helps, Ron

Item works well however, BEWARE – This is an older model (mine was built in 2007 purchased in April 2009). You will need to retain your receipt for any warranty work. I found this out only because the online warrenty registry program had a glitch in it, where I ended up speaking to Foodsaver’s Warrenty Rep. at: 800-777-5452 (you need to wait until you hear the food saver option since this place handles many other products). The rep. had me give her a number off of the prong that plugs into the wall (mine was Y250), which was when she informed me my model was manufactured in 2007 and the warrenty would have expired in 2008. Given that I had just purchased this item in April 2009, she had to put me on hold and came back speaking in gray garble. I had to push her to say that my item would be covered for a year from the date of purchase. Fortunately, Amazon sends a confirmation receipt via email where this can be saved as a back up.

Not liking the two plastic containers this came with. As others have mentioned they leak. My cut up pineapple had brown spots the next day however, I put part of the same pineapple at the time of cutting into a ziplock plastic storage container and it didn’t have brown spots the next day.

Coffee Beans – I was told by the same rep that coffee beans emit an oil which was why our once tighly shrink wrapped beans now look loose. She said to avoid this in the future, put a coffee filter or paper towel on the top of the beans before you seal them.

After reading others review, I can see why you need to pre-freeze items. While making 1 pound packs of hamburger, some of the blood juices came up to the edge where it was being sealed. Fortunately, this did not pass through into our machine.

I guess we’ll be flash freezing fruit, meat, veggies and anything wet before using this.

Did a great job on sour dough bread. This will work out great for rafting, camping… and the ice chest for sure.

I am very happy with this product. He had only a few months, but this is not the first act and was so easy.

We were undecided between Foodsaver and Seal-A-meal and Foodsaver decided to score some reason we have seen. We were very pleased with ours, as it is easy to use and has features that others do not have, especially one that allows you to vacuum seal soft items such as biscuits without smashing them. We use to store our steaks on the BBQ and to our summer trips in our RV for four months. Now you do not have to worry about getting the type of meat, we go wherever we want.

I've had mine for over 4 years now and is still sealing. Never had any problems with him. I do not know if it matters, but on the instructions and make sure not to leave the lid closed when not in use (keep it from the original piece of Styrofoam inside the vacuum bed to the door propped open). The ads are not exaggeration, this remarkable work of food conservation. When that kills more than (if not always) I'll be buying the latest models. Stephanie Wood, Kona, HI
