I received the mini-prep as a wedding gift 2.5 years ago. I've may be 30 times and the motor burned up. Very disappointing. I had no problem with him before.
I wanted to LOVE it. I was in LUST with it. I even waited for the slightly larger, new & improved version to come out. But in the heat of battle it let me down.
The day it arrived I was SO excited. “I’ll never use that big 14 cup behemoth again” I said. So I unceremoniously shoved it into the hall closet along with the vacuum, goat-skin rug, & the recently discarded Tupperware “cake-taker”.
I proudly set my gleaming new mini-prep next to the K.A. stand mixer and the Mini ZO breadmaker in my one & only appliance garage (which will only hold THREE items.) “This is gonna be perfect for chopping herbs, making breadcrumbs, & chopping nuts” I thought. I admired it every time I looked at it.
Then one weekend company was coming & I wanted to make spinach dip (you know the one with the leek soup mix & the spinach & the green onion?)I finally had a chance to put the mini-prep through its paces. Well the darned mini-prep was just a little too small…I know, because I TRIED!
So down the hall I trudged to lug the BIG CUISINART back to the kitchen. Everything worked out & I only had 12 or so parts to clean & put away.
Bloom off the rose.
Next time, I was making carrot cake. But oops… the mini only has a
blade, no grater. Back down the hall.
This is getting to be a drag.
TIME: Not many days later.
SCENE: My house , a couple of hours before the BIG PARTY … Lots of company, MUCHO food to prep. Need a ton of basil for the pesto ASAP! I’m workin’ with greasy hands…I’m workin’ with ONE HAND!! AND THE BOWL WON’T COME OFF!! I used TWO HANDS! It was just like trying to catch a falling bar of soap in the shower! THE WHOLE THING TIPS OVER! The base of the mini just doesn’t have the weight of the BIG DADDY.
End of love affair.
Last time I saw the mini-prep it was on the clearence table at the church tag sale.
“What about the nuts & the herbs & the bread crumbs?” you ask?
A knife, a knife, a box of croutons & a sledgehammer……..easier clean-up.
Check out this video for some great recipes and ideas. http://kitchen-dining.hsn.com/cuisinart-mini-prep-plus-4-cup-food-processor_p-5421978_xp.aspx # $ I have the Cuisinart that sits higher on the shelf during the month, and 2 cup Black and Decker mini processor, which is simply too small, but I have it for years anyway. I have not seen that model on many TV cooking shows, but had no idea what size or brand was. Now I am considering using my model in almost every day. I recently came across this Cuisinart 4 cup, quite by accident, and I absolutely love it. I have used it more in the last few weeks that I used 2 cups in 6 months. This makes perfect bread crumbs, fresh and dried, and only the right amount of salsa or tapenade in seconds. Yes, the batter onion, but it is very carefully monitored, and because they are an ingredient, do not be served to work out fine. The four cups are a good size and has a lot of energy. It is easy to use and clean. *** In response to the engine, where he died after a few uses … This happened to me the third or fourth time, I used to – just stopped working. Fortunately, my husband was there and when fit, just long pushed things to the base plastic to make the connection. I did not pushed him all the way through. No problem after that and now make sure it is properly inserted.
I am quite satisfied with the results of the food processor. It's just the right size of most foods. It is completely disassembles for cleaning. In the upper part can be somewhat difficult to secure and remove … line is you have to turn right and quite strongly. As with most processors, I suppose, you have to scrap the sides down so often, to obtain a homogeneous mix. It seems to be of sufficient strength, but have not yet tried to smash something hard. It works nicely on the celery. Be careful when cleaning knife and gently, you do not want to ding it.
I was 21 years old, wandering by the William Sonoma catalog, holding the gift certificate with my Dad. I was completely lost. With little knowledge or direction I stumbled a bit on the food processor. Frankly, I think he bought it, I thought it was "cute." But I'm so glad I did! Now 6 years later, this little child is still earns the honor of being "counter-top" device. Mini-prep has a sharp blade for fast, and even chopping. It is ideal for small batch of pesto or hummos. I use it to grate the onions, carrots and cheese and quick smoothie for one. It's small and easy to clean, which totally love. It becomes much more than my big guy at 6 years and it works as well as the day I bought it. A great buy!
